ABC Bias
Friday, May 30, 2003
The ABC has some great non-political programs: science, literature, music, religion, comedy, etc. But on the political front, they have been getting away with blue murder for years, operating a blatantly Labor platform while funded by taxpayers, half of whom are not Labor.
Questions have long been raised about ABC bias, and their response overall has been equivalent to the two-fingered salute. One problem is the egocentric one: to many people on the left, the ABC appears balanced.
The supporters scream that they are being threatened with the muzzle, a denial of free speech. But this is hysterical. All that is required is equal time given to programs and personalities of equal quality from the other side of politics.
Of course, the present left management could not be trusted with such a task. The only way you would get a fair balance is if production of news, current affairs and politics were equally divided between two management teams, each employed on political credentials, and each allowed to comment on the other's output.
