Stories Without Meaning

I hate it when media give us a dramatic story, but no explanation. Rene Rivkin is in jail, they say because of a $325 improper gain using inside information on share values. It's not the amount, they say, it's the principle.
Now call me cynical, but who believes this? Even assuming the charge were true, where are the several thousand other insider traders who have made much greater gains and should be ahead of Rene in the jail queue?
Come on journalists, if you are going to run the Rivkin story, at least tell us why he was busted.
