Since the new casino has opened in Melbourne an awful lot of money has been spent - more than expected, and too much of it by people who can't afford it.
It is not unusual to open a casino, but in view of the over-eager public response in Melbourne I think it would be responsible now to refrain from actively promoting it on TV. Tourist brochures, yes, but TV reaches every corner of society, including the young, the poor and the desperate. Like tobacco, let's allow it but let's not push it.
