The Best Superpower

The Melbourne AGE        Tuesday, September 11, 2007

AUSTRALIA'S youth are misled by our education system. Teachers, teacher trainers and lecturers are well to the left of the general population. An anti-US attitude has spread throughout our schools and universities.

Add to this the lack of real history lessons — of the drive to conquer and of countries having to defend themselves. Our young are unaware of some very basic facts of life in the affairs of nations. Superpowers are a law unto themselves and usually this means large-scale oppression and slaughter. Recent examples are Hitler's Germany, Imperial Japan and Stalin's Russia.

In relation to the history of the mightiest regimes, it is obvious that the US is the most benign superpower the world has known. We should be glad to live in American times, and not wish to hasten their demise. For whoever comes next will almost certainly be worse.
