Smacking or Doping?
Herald-Sun Monday, July 15, 2002
Justice Nicholson wants laws to deter parents from smacking children. Are such laws desirable? Is such a regime even possible? With most children the issue doesn’t arise, but what about the others?
Some people are pointing to the school system as an example of how children can be made to conform to adults’ wishes without physical contact.
But the school system can only maintain its no-touch record because many thousands of Australian children today are permanently doped on amphetamines. Is this what Australia wants? To swap smacking for doping?
