Masculinity Not Redundant
Sunday, April 11, 2004
Tim Ferguson's over-eager renunciation of his manhood (The Age, 9-10 April) in "Masculinity is redundant" is doubly a fantasy. Masculinity cannot be dispensed with. It is hard-wired into half of the human race.
Furthermore, the masculine contribution is not limited to "construction, combat and... outdoors". The male psyche contributes to every problem of existence, just as the female does. One saves the day as often as the other.
As chairman Mao said, each holds up one half of the sky.
