Control Freaks After the Kids
The Herald Sun Wednesday, December 28, 2005
It is a worry that the Victorian Education Ministry wants legislation enabling them to control home-schoolers however they see fit. They want new powers over the people - drafted by their own regulation rather than by parliamentary debate.
Don't be hypnotised by Bracks' bland persona: he is fronting for some serious control freaks. I remember when the same faction ran the Education Ministry some years ago, they wanted to be able to directly abduct home-schooled children from non-conforming families. This KGB-style regime was fortunately blocked in the (then Liberal) upper house.
This issue is a key battlefront in the war between state authority and family authority. It is an outrage against democracy that the Ministry wants to be able to impose their will on voiceless and defenceless individual families - without public debate on the rights of a family to decide who shall educate their children.
