Welcome a Mix of Peoples
Sunday, September 07, 2003
Between wars, talk of war is brushed aside as fanciful and alarmist. But across centuries, invasions are a regular part of human life. All is calm for many years, but once trouble starts, the map can quickly change. Australia is a land of plenty, underpopulated by world standards, and eyed with envy by many.
We do have finite water, but we waste it. We flush our toilets with drinking water good enough to export. We could accomodate more. If we steadily grow our population in proportion with world pressures, we have a sporting chance of keeping Australian values intact for our descendants. Populate or perish.
And to calm the fear of admitting the Trojan horse of a whole nation that will rival and suppress our own, all we need to do is to spread our invitations far and wide across a mix of peoples in need of a better place to live.
